Dr. A. K. Das – Guest Editor for Aug 2021
Metabolic Health Digest’s August edition is not less than a scientific treat covering articles describing awaited guidelines to most trending subject i.e. Vaccine.
While continuing the aim to serve data providing updates and subsequent goals, MHD has included researches from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists(AACE) discussing new LDL-C targets and the future scope of diabetes technology. There are two eye-opening types of research that I found in this edition. First, there is evidence of the presence of metabolic obesity in undernourished and normal weight children which needs immediate and active intervention. Second, The condition described as “Metabolically Healthy Obesity” is not healthy and usage of this term should be restricted in clinical medicine.
There is growing evidence suggesting that lung is a target organ of diabetes-related pathophysiology, the article discussing this bidirectional relationship shouldn’t be missed by readers. Research papers discussing SGLT2 inhibitors as reno-protective agents, as second-line therapy after metformin monotherapy would help clinicians for updating the treatment approach. Identification of individuals at risk for ASCVD and providing preventive measures must be an active clinic practice.
There is a lack of awareness among diabetic foot ulcers in patients with diabetes. This month’s edition is hence unique as it encourages a treatment approach beyond the traditional healthcare system with an emphasis on education and mental health. Apart from this breaking science, we also have highlighted a few interesting cases and Dr. Archana Sarada’s lifestory that will inspire one and all.
The 1 st case from Dr Balaji Jaganmohan speaks about Fibro Calculus Pancreatic Diabetes having favourable outcomes with treatment and another case from Dr. Nandita Arun on Obstructive Sleep Apnea which is often overlooked in people with obesity and metabolic disorders. Lastly, Dr. Dhruvi Hasnani has discussed her treatment approach for PCOS and hyperglycemia.
I welcome readers for acceptance of this abundant knowledge. Happy Reading.
